This is the one we call "EDO's Summit Route." You can walk straight from the highway to the top of Brian Head Peak in an hour. EDO pioneered it in 2016, and we did it together in 2017. If the road is still closed by snow (like it was today), you will have the summit to yourself.
Aside from the snow on the road, however, the most alarming thing is that the entire route was devoid of moisture. This is May 14 at 11,000 feet on the Colorado Plateau: It should not be dusty. Three of the past four years were drought years—2018, 2020, 2021—and it looks like 2022 is shaping up to be one, too.
