Covid Creatives

Many events and gatherings have been cancelled or postponed due to the virus crisis.  This is as it should be, but it can make life difficult for painters and other creatives.  VSO had a show scheduled for the museum in Cedar City that was moved until next year.  I mean a whole year:  From April 2020 to April 2021.  A good friend of hers, Carol Bold, has had shows entirely cancelled.  Terrible luck for a talented person.

One of my friends said that quarantine is probably good for song-writers, and I don't disagree.  We wrote this verse last night:

They shut the hall, the school, the temple
Thank God the liquor store's been deemed essential
How long will things be this bad
If I go first you can't be sad

But, these are hard times for visual artists, so let's feature a couple of VSO's best.  A couple that are stuck in the closet for now.  (Actually, the camera I am using is so poor that we didn't do her justice.  The .jpgs look bad.  Sorry, V.)

Gang Ski

Robyn suggested that we all go to Cedar Breaks to try out the cross-country skis.  So we did:  Seven of us left the cars at the Rattlesnake Trailhead and made our way out across the meadow.  The goal, of course, was the rim, and the whole gang made it there for the view.  On the way back, the group fragmented, with Jasper reaching the cars first, and Robyn taking an extra lap in the meadow.  It was a beautiful afternoon.

Capitol Reef

It rained and snowed over the weekend, it is raining and snowing now, but for Monday and Tuesday the weather was actually pretty nice:  Mostly dry and sunny.  We all went down to the southeastern corner of Capitol Reef.  On Monday, EDO and I climbed the Red Slide (above), on Tuesday we all hiked the narrows at Headquarters Canyon (below).

Top Ropin'

It was sunny in town.  Maybe a bit breezy, but it seemed like a nice day to try some rock climbing.  In the event, there were clouds and strong winds, strong enough to make it almost cold.  The girls, however, could not be stopped.  They each topped the wall three times.

Bottles and Broken Hearts

VSO bought another guitar.  The band now has six guitars, including a Fender lap steel donated by Tony and Cindy.  Because I can't play a lick on any of them, we may need to recruit some more musicians.  At any rate, our guitarists did a nice job with this one:  Another classic country song by EATO about bottles and broken hearts.  And fleas?  Listen here.
