Car Headlights

VSO has been complaining that the headlights on the car are not very bright.  As eye-sight declines with age, driving at night becomes more difficult (and not just for her), especially if the lights are dim.  The car has about 285,000 miles on it, and the lights are original (as far as we know), so they have been out in the weather a fair amount.  You can buy an entire light unit for about $140, or $280 to replace both of them.  Before spending the money though, I decided to try one of those $15 lens cleaning kits along with a pair of brighter light bulbs ($35).  We'll see.  But it will be nice if we can turn night to day for about $50.

The Other Side of the Highway

I thought the other side of the canyon, the east side, would be better for climbing.  There was more afternoon sun, maybe less snow, and it seemed a little lower.  In the event, the first five hundred feet may have been worse, slippery and steep.  Working along the ridge, over a series of small ledges, may have been better, though.  The views, at any rate, were as good as those from the west side.

Keep the Bulls Outside the Lines

I know that I said the next song would be about drinking.  But, we wrote this one recently about the hazards of driving.  Unfortunately, one of those hazardslivestock on the roadbecame real this weekend, so the song seemed apropos.  I was standing on the brakes, and I almost missed it, but contact with the bull was enough to break three of the four lights.

Bad Luck

We’ve had no snow for three weeks.  But, of course, because I planned a weekend road trip, we got five warm, wet sloppy inches, followed by very cold temps.  Now everything is an iceberg.

Five Years On

Five years ago, at the end of December 2014, I accidentally came across a partially intact corrugated jar in a very out-of-the-way part of Recapture Creek.  This year (2019), we were in Recapture again at the end of December (yesterday) and the girls were interested in seeing the jar.  I wasn't sure I could find it, but there it was, looking a bit worse for wear.
