Three Permit Day

While I got started on a pair of dead aspens, the girls wandered around in four or five inches of snow looking for Christmas trees.  After the firewood was bucked, loaded, and tagged, we added a seven or eight foot white fir for The Homestead.  Then we drove around for a few minutes looking for a smaller one for Grandma and Grandpa.  There it was, a Chevy full of forest products.

    1. Bought the permit on-line, found the tree on Google Earth, cut it with a drone, Ubered it to town, and had Echo install it. Modern!

  2. Awesome Andrew! Alas, our 4-wheel drive gave out, and we couldn't haul our nearly 20-footer out of the forest (planned to cut it in half and arrange pieces on upper and lower floors to make it look continuous through the ceiling). Had to leave it by the side of the road. Tried to go back in after it the next day, and the weekend after that, and finally had to give up and get a commercial tree. The girls were quite sad - took a beautiful tree down from its perch overlooking a valley, and then left it...

    1. Sorry, the comment above was from me. I didn't realize it was publishing anonymously.

    2. Amaris! Disappointing. We've had similar issues in the past: You want to get off the beaten path to find your tree, but instead find yourself stuck in the snow. The good thing, though, is that fir trees are prolific seeders, and shade-tolerant, so they are sprouting and thriving by the millions. You will have another good opportunity next year.
